Chinook School Board makes hires

The Chinook School Board met for their monthly meeting in June. The following is based on the draft minutes.

Chairman Billmayer welcomed visitors, as well as the members in attendance including: Stacey Hasler-Elliot, Tammy Edwards, Charlotte Brummer, Jenn Conrad, Gerald and Stella Llante, Mitzi Cecrele, Bill Bell, Dannelle Gibson, Lesa MacLeod, Alicia Noel, and Jill Paulsen.

The Board then considered extra duty appointments. There were three individuals considered for the junior high football coach position: Leland Standiford, and/or Trent Noel, and/or Drake Berreth. There was a request to table a decision until there could be discussions with Standiford, including a concern from Chairman Billmayer on how a delay might impact the other candidates.

Trustee Elias moved to table the hiring of the Junior High Football coaches and Trustee DePriest seconded the motion. Chairman Billmayer asked for public comment and none was given. Chairman Billmayer then asked for discussion in which there were questions asked. The motion carried unanimously.

Next up, Trustee DePriest moved to appoint Alicia Noel the Junior High Girls assistant Basketball coach and Trustee Kelley seconded the motion. Chairman Billmayer asked for public comment but there was none. Likewise, there was no discussion among the Board. The motion carried unanimously.

The Board then considered the Junior High Boys Basketball Coach position and candidate Bill Bell. Trustee DePriest moved to appoint Bell and Trustee Elias seconded. There were no public comments. Upon Chairman Billmayer's request for discussion, the meeting went into executive/closed meeting from 8:00 pm to 8:11 pm. The motion carried unanimously with Bell being appointed.

Mr. Hofman indicated that candidate Shay Waldbillig declined the Board's offer for the Junior High girls volleyball assistant coach position.

Trevor Reid was approved for the gifted and talented position following a motion by Trustee Elias and seconded by Trustee DePriest. There was no public comment or discussion and the motion carried unanimously.

Next up, was the 4-6 grade student council position. Mr. Hofman stated this is a new position to promote positive peer leadership. Trustee Elias moved to appoint Alicia Noel and Trustee Kelley seconded the motion. When asked by Chairman Billmayer for public comment, Mrs. Tammy Edwards voiced support saying the position was a good idea because students will listen to other students. Chairman Billmayer, during board discussion, noted that student government is a positive thing and the motion carried unanimously.

The High School Board then considered Extra Duty Assignments for K-12/9-12.

Trustee Elias appointment as moved to appoint Chrissy Downs as the Corporate Sponsor Coordinator and Trustee Crowley seconded the motion. Chairman Billmayer received no public comment, when he asked for it. During board discussion, Chairman Billmayer thanked Chrissy for always being willing to step up and take on additional responsibilities. Downs was appointed with an unanimous vote.

For HS Assistant Wrestling Coach, Trustee Elias moved and Trustee Malsam seconded that Robin Stroh be hired as the assistant and Trent Noel be the volunteer. Chairman Billmayer asked for public comment but there was none. Billmayer then asked for discussion. Trustee Crowley commended Mr. Noel for being able to step down to allow Robin to be the coach, and him staying as a volunteer. Chairman Billmayer agreed. The motion carried unanimously.

Trustee DePriest then moved to hire David Murray for Driver's Education. Trustee Liddle seconded. There was no public comment. During discussion, Trustee DePriest commented that Murray is doing a good job and the he really likes that he took the students to Great Falls to get interstate experience. The motion was carried unanimously.

Trustee DePriest moved, and Trustee Kelley seconded that Roy Case be hired as route bus driver. There was no public comment or discussion, and the motion was carried unanimously.

For sub rout drivers, Stacey Hasler-Elliot and Nicholas Turner were approved unanimously following Trustee Elias's motion (pending completion of endorsement) and Trustee DePriest's Second. There was no public comment. During discussion, Chairman Billmayer thanked Hasler-Elliot and Turner for being willing to step up to drive the buses.

For Activity Bus Drivers, Trustee Elias moved, and Trustee Crowley seconded that Don Swenson, Dennis Cross, Perry Alcorn, Kory Cecrle, Brian Berreth, Josh Nordboe, Roy Case, and Nicholas Turner should be hired. There was no public comment or discussion, and all were approved unanimously.

Finally, the Board considered the hiring of the summer maintenance crew. During discussion Mr. Hofman stated that while a lot of people are hired, not all of them work throughout the summer. Trustee Elias moved and Trustee Kelley seconded that the following be hired: Gerald Llante, Stella Llante, Patricia Loco, Trevor Reid, Dean Buffington, Janelle Deanon, Faith Hofman and Cheyanne Weigand (student). The motion passed unanimously.
