Join us today at the library for the "Let's Celebrate!" event from 4:00-6:00 P.M. This open house celebrates and showcases the 112 new children's books received through a grant from the Pilcrow Foundation whose mission is "to provide new, quality, hardcover children's books to rural public libraries." The Friends of the Library are the local sponsors of this grant and are hosting this event to express their appreciation to the community for their support of the library. Refreshments will be served.

The Book Challenge for August is to read a book set in a school. You may win a gift certificate from a local business!

Fall programming will begin after Labor Day. Stay tuned for the schedule of children's and family weekly programs. The Book Club, a book discussion group for adults, will begin September 25, 4 P.M.

"The Secret Book of Flora Lea" is by Patti Callahan Henry. During WWII fourteen-year-old Hazel and five-year-old Flora are moved from their home in London to a rural village to escape the dangers and destruction of the bombings. To fill their days Hazel and Flora play along the River Thames where they create an imaginary fairy tale about the land called Whisperwood. The unthinkable happens when Flora vanishes while playing on the banks of the river. Twenty years later Hazel has made a life for herself in London. One day she receives a package containing a book call "Whisperwood and the River of Stars." Hazel never told a soul about the imaginary world they created. T.J. Newman has written "Drowning: The Rescue of Flight 1421." This novel will keep you on the edge of your seat as a commercial jetliner crashes into the ocean and sinks to the bottom with passengers trapped inside.
