Thanks to everyone who attended our open house celebrating the new children’s books received through the Pilcrow Foundation Grant. Sincere appreciation to the Friends of the Library for hosting the event and providing refreshments.

The Book Challenge for August is to read a book set in a school. When you complete the challenge be sure to contact the library. September’s challenge is to read a book with a number in the title.

Just to let you know – the stuffed library cat has a new name: Stacks! Thanks to all of you for voting.

In September you may “Buy a Bag O’Books!” Fill grocery sacks with used books from the reading room and buy each bag for only one dollar.

The library will be closed Monday, September 4 in observance of Labor Day.

There will be no meeting of the library board of trustees in August.

Children’s programs will start up again the week of September 5. Storytime for little ones ages 0-5 and their parents/caregivers meets on Tuesdays at 10 A.M. After School Squad for elementary students focuses on STEAM activities and meets on Wednesdays at 4 P.M. Lego Club for all ages is held on Thursdays at 4 P.M. Preschool children must be accompanied by an adult. After School Squad and Lego Club are meeting one-half hour later due to the new school schedule.

“Only the Beautiful” is by Susan Meissner. Rosanne loses her parents in an accident when she is sixteen and is taken in by the vineyard owners where she lived as the vinedresser’s daughter. Her grief and loneliness causes her to break the vow to her mother never to tell of her unusual ability: Rosie sees colors when she hears sound. In a desperate moment she lets down her guard and ends up pregnant. She soon finds out she is not going to a home for unwed mothers, but a place much worse.

Daniel Silva is the author of “The Collector.” Art restorer and legendary spy, Gabriel Allon, is sent on a mission to track down a valuable stolen painting “The Concert” by Johannes Vermeer. He soon discovers the painting has changed hands as part of an illicit billion-dollar business deal involving a man code-named the Collector. The painting is the center of a conspiracy that could send the world into a conflict of apocalyptic proportions.

“Cassandra in Reverse” is written by Holly Smale. Cassandra Penelope Dankworth is a person of habit whose life has run in a predictable order until now. She’s just been dumped. She’s just been fired. Her local coffee shop has run out of banana muffins. Now she discovers she can go back and change the past!

New mysteries include “Flop Dead Gorgeous,” an Andy Carpenter mystery by David Rosenfelt, “Robert B. Parker’s Bad Influence” by Alison Gaylin, and “Rock Bottom” by Fern Michaels.

Looking ahead: The Book Club will begin September 25 at 4 P.M. The new book we will be reading is “The Measure” by Nikki Erlick.
