Lady Cats Swept By Glasgow at Home

The Lady Cats had just one match on the schedule this week, a home contest with District 2B rival Glasgow. The Lady cats continued to volley well, but in the end, it was the Scotties that came away with a 3-0 win over the Lady Cats.

In set number one the Scotties started fast jumping out to leads of 9-3 and 18-9 before a resilient Lady Cat squad started to battle back. Senior Emma Billmayer slammed home a kill to make it 18-10 and moments later an ace from senior Kaitlyn Johnson cut the Scottie lead to 19-15. Glasgow rallied and scored the final six points to win the opening set 25-15.

Set number two started well for the Lady Cats with Johnson recording a block to put Harlem up 1-0 but that would be it for the Lady Cats momentum. Glasgow seized control of the set and cruised to a 25-13 second set win to go up 2-0 in the match.

In set number three Billmayer got the Lady Cats on the board with another kill to make it 2-1 in favor of Glasgow. Billmayer recorded another kill moments later cutting the Scottie lead to 4-3. Junior Jaden Blackcrow found a hole in the Scottie defense to stay within one at 9-8. Glasgow went on a run to expand the lead to six but another Billmayer kill cut the score to 15-10. From that point on it was all Glasgow as the Scotties took the third set 15-12 to complete the sweep.

Head Coach Kim Faulkinberry had this to say following her team’s loss to Glasgow, “We definitely didn’t play as well as I know we can. We practiced really well on Thursday and Friday, but that didn’t carry over into Saturday. We struggled at times to stay in system. If we are out of system talking is mandatory. Faulkinberry went on to say, “We didn’t communicate well with each other on the floor. The girls have to come to each match ready to compete. Our execution wasn’t on point. We compete well when our hitting percentage is positive. Out of 70 attempts to attack, we had 12 kills and 26 errors. We just have to get more effective of converting every time that we are in system.”

The Lady Cats hosted the North Country Mavericks on Tuesday and will welcome the Malta M-ettes to town on Thursday. On Saturday the team will travel to Wolf Point to take on the Indians.
