The Harlem Library is an affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Parents of children ages 0-5 are encouraged to register their children to receive a free book each month until the child’s fifth birthday. First Lady Susan Gianforte’s Treasure State Foundation supports this initiative to cover the cost. The Book Challenge for October is to read a cozy mystery. We have a selection on display for you to choose from.

Kathleen Grissom is the author of “Crow Mary.” In the summer of 1872, Crow Mary marries Abe Farwell, a white fur trader, and travels with him from Montana to the Cypress Hills of Saskatchewan, Canada. “The Third to Die” is written by Allison Brennan. Detective Kara Quinn, on leave from the LAPD, discovers the body of young nurse. Meanwhile word reaches FBI agent Mathias Costa that the murder fits the profile of the compulsive Triple Killer. Together Quinn and Costa are at the heart of the ticking-clock investigation for a psychopathic serial killer.

Tara Connelly is released from prison after serving eighteen months on a drug charge. Now she must rebuild her life with no money and no prospects. She returns home to live with her siblings – her brother who is a single dad suffering from the effects of a brain injury and her sister who is cracking under the burden of big secrets. “The Connellys of County Down” is by Tracey Lange.

“Evergreen” is a Japantown Mystery by Naomi Hirahara. It has been two years since Aki Ito and her family were released from the Manzanar detention center and resettled in Chicago with other Japanese Americans. Now back in Los Angeles, the Itos are starting from scratch like other Japanese Americans. Aki is working as a nurse’s aide when an elderly man is admitted with suspicious injuries. Could he be victim of elder abuse? Then a murder takes place in Little Tokyo and Aki is worried the violence might threaten her family.

Another installment in the Hope Harbor series by Irene Hannon is “Sea Glass Cottage.” Terry Brooks has written “Daughter of Darkness,” the second book in the Viridian Deep science fiction series.
