The Chinook Sugarbeeters closed out their regular season in Whitewater this past Wednesday with a match against the North Country Mavericks. The 'Beeters will now turn their attention to the District 1B Tournament in Fairfield this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The 'Beeters were in Whitewater Wednesday looking to close out the season on a high note against the North Country Mavericks. A kill from junior Rilee Molyneaux evened the score at 7-7 in the opening set. North Country opened up a 12-9 lead but back to back kills from senior Teagan Richman and senior Hallie Neibauer cut the Maverick lead to 12-11. From that point on the opening set belonged to the Mavericks as they secured a 25-13 win.

In set number two, a 7-5 lead early and a kill from Richman put the 'Beeters up 11-8. Chinook maintained the lead with a tip from Neibauer and another kill from Richman off a set from senior Mya Berreth giving Chinook a 15-11 advantage. Kills from junior Hannah Schoen and Molyneaux gave the 'Beeters a 19-15 edge before North Country gained their footing. The Mavericks once again finished strong and took the second set 25-22 to go up 2-0 in the match.

Chinook could not get anything going in set number three and the Mavericks had all the momentum. North Country cruised to a 25-9 third set win to take the match 3-0. Richman led the 'Beeter attack with 9 kills on the night. Molyneaux dug up nine balls and junior Addison Olsen recorded 14 assists for the 'Beeters.

The 'Beeters finished the season 6-6 in the District 1B and will be the No. 5 seed heading into the district tournament in Fairfield this week. Chinook will open play at the District 1B tournament Thursday afternoon at 4:00 pm against the No. 4 seed Shelby Coyotes. The two teams split their regular season match ups with each winning on their home court. Chinook beat Shelby back in September 3-2 while the Coyotes swept the 'Beeters earlier this month. The winner will move on to face No. 1 seed Fairfield Friday morning at 10:00 am. The top four teams from the District 1B tournament will advance to the Northern B Divisional in Malta November 2-4.
