Blaine County Museum Memo

December 6, 2023

The month of November has been a busy one for the museum. At the beginning of the month, we celebrated Native American Heritage Month by having a 20% off book sale on all titles related to Native American Heritage. There has also been a lot of progress on our Gilbert Horn exhibit. Sam and Austin have been busy researching various topics to ensure the exhibit will be both informative and thought provoking.

Last week was the Parade of Lights and the museum hosted a scavenger hunt for the local children to enjoy. Sixteen elves were hidden amongst the exhibits and the children had to use the clues provided to spot the elves. The scavenger hunt saw 75 participants. Each kid received a goodie bag, and three kids went home with a grand prize. Caden B. won an Elf on the Shelf, Collins L. won a gingerbread floor puzzle, and Boone D. won a $30 gift certificate to the Museum bookstore. We were met with great praise and plan to continue with this tradition. The elves are still hiding, and kids are invited to participate in the hunt until December 22nd.

The Chamber offered their punch cards again and the museum was on it. Between the scavenger hunt, punch cards, and bookstore sale, the museum saw 189 visitors on November 24.

This month we had one donation. Judy Chapman of Chinook donated a Milk River Riders flag, six trophies from Chuck Wagon Days, and a copy of the newspaper “Honolulu Star” reporting on the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

The museum has changed their winter hours. We are now open from 10am- 6pm to give locals and others the chance to stop in after their work hours. – Olivia Finley, BCM Collection Assistant
