Better Boys blast Fort Benton 60-37 Fall to Rocky Boy 79-58

The 'Beeter boys were back on the court Tuesday, December 19 when they made the trip west to take on Fort Benton. The 'Beeters put together a complete game, coming away with a 60-37 win over their former District 9C rival. The following day, they hosted the Rocky Boy Stars in a District 1B clash that saw Rocky Boy secure a 79-58 win over the Beeters.

Senior Jackson Nordboe opened the scoring with a jumper from the left elbow to give Chinook the early lead. Fort Benton responded with a triple to take their first lead of the contest, 3-2. Nordboe drew a foul on a strong move to the basket and converted one of two from the charity strip to make the score 5-3 in favor of the Longhorns. Junior Landen Beck nailed a free throw, junior Carson Nissen converted a mid-range jumper for a score and Beck finished the break strong to give Chinook an 8-5 lead with just under 5 minutes remaining in the first quarter.


Senior Gyme Kelly scored inside and Beck followed with an old-fashioned three-point play to put Chinook up six, 13-7. Beck found Nordboe down low for a 15-10 'Beeter lead. Sophomore Isaac Kelly knocked down a long triple and an 18-12 'Beeter lead. Nordboe finished the quarter with an offensive rebound and a score, sending the 'Beeters to the second quarter with a five point advantage, 20-15.

Gyme Kelly drained a dagger from distance off a nice pass from Beck to give Chinook a 24-18 lead with 3:10 left in the first half. The senior then knocked down 1-2 from the free throw line. Freshman Jameson Nordboe scored on a floater off the glass to put Chinook up 27-18 with 2:11 to go in the half. The teams would head to the locker room with the 'Beeters on top 28-20.


Fort Benton scored the first basket of the third quarter, cutting the 'Beeters' lead to 28-22 and then followed with another score inside, cutting the lead to four. Isaac Kelly scored going to the basket to give Chinook a 30-24 lead.

Kelly scored off a nice dribble drive down the right side of the key to extend the 'Beeter lead to 32 -24. Jackson Nordboe made a nice pass to Bell for a bucket inside and a ten-point advantage, 34-24. Jamison Nordboe was fouled going to the basket with 1:44 left in the 3rd quarter, converting 1-2 from the charity stripe for Chinook to take the nine point lead. Kelly converted 2-2 from the line for the 10 point lead with 11 seconds left in the 3rd.


A pass from Jackson Nordboe to Britt Powell led to an easy bucket to start the 4th quarter at 39-27. Nissen drew the foul going hard to the basket, converting 1-2 for the 12 point lead, making the score 40-28. Jameson Nordboe was fouled under the basket and got a couple friendly bounces to go 2-2 and keep the 12 point lead at 42-30. Nissen was then fouled with a low block and went to the line hitting the second free throw. Nissen hit a short jumper to extend the lead to 47-30.

Jackson Nordboe hit Kelly with a beautiful pass down low for a 51-33 lead with 3:12 left in the contest. Jackson Nordboe pushed the lead to 19 at 54 -35 with time running out. The Beeters finished strong, collecting a 60-37 victory for the first win of the season.

Jackson Nordboe led the scoring with 20 points, while Nissen added 13 to the 'Beeter total and Jameson Nordboe finished with 10 points in the win.

Wednesday night, the 'Beeters hosted the Rocky Boy Stars in a District 1B clash. The 'Beeters got off to a slow start scoring just nine points in the opening quarter while surrendering 16 to the Stars. Chinook had the offense rolling a bit better in the second quarter where they scored 15 but saw the Rocky Boy lead extend to 36-24 by halftime. Jameson Nordboe scored seven points in the quarter, including one from distance, while Nissen added six in the quarter.

Jackson scored 15 in the second half, including one from distance, while Gyme Kelly added seven points after the break. When all was said and done, the Rocky Boy Stars earned a 79-58 win over the Chinook Sugarbeeters.

Jackson tallied 20 points in the loss, while Nissen finished with 13 and Jameson 10. Gyme Kelly scored 9 in the contest for the 'Beeters.
