Bears & Longhorns slip by Tornadoes

The Turner Tornadoes began their 2024 this past Friday with a road contest against the undefeated Box Elder Bears. Turner took the Bears to the edge, falling in a hard-fought 46-38 setback. Friday afternoon, they welcomed the Fort Benton Longhorns and again turned in a solid effort, dropping another tough battle to the Longhorns 43-35.

Against the Bears last Tuesday, the Tornadoes defense played well, holding the undefeated Bears to an 11-point first quarter, getting a triple and five points from sophomore Meridian Snider in the first eight minutes. They managed just seven points in the quarter and trailed 22-13 at the half-time break.

Turner scored nine points in the third quarter, getting five points from sophomore Brooke Reed and saw the Bears extend their lead to 45-31, heading into the fourth quarter. Snider dropped in a pair of triples leading to 12 fourth quarter points, trimming the Bears' lead to eight, securing a 43-35 win over the Tornadoes. Reed led the way with nine points, while freshman Abby Grabofsky added seven in the loss.


The Longhorns opened up an 11-7 lead heading into the second quarter. Turner played a solid second quarter, only to see Fort Benton open up a 24-17 lead at halftime. Turner caught fire coming out of the breakout, scoring Fort Benton 14-7 to give Turner a 31-30 lead with eight minutes left in regulation.

Fort Benton finished strong down the stretch, out scoring the Tornadoes 13-4 to secure a 43-35 win over Turner. Reed led the Tornadoes with nine points while Grabofski added seven.
