The Turner Tornado girls made the short trip south to challenge the Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds in a District 9C contest. Both teams got up and down the court at a good pace, but shooting was a bit of a problem for both teams. In the end, the Tornadoes took home a 48-32 win. The games for Saturday were postponed until a later date. The Tornadoes were set to face the North Star Knights, while the Thunderbirds had their road contest with Fort Benton postponed as well.

Turner was looking to get off to a fast start and boy did they do that. Sophomore Bridgett Reed lit the scoreboard up with eleven first quarter points, including one from beyond the arc. Reed added a bucket inside and went 5-5 from the charity stripe. Sophomore Meridian Snider scored a bucket inside and senior Cassidy Grabovsky connected from downtown to make the Turner score 17-8 at the end of the first quarter. The Thunderbirds scored eight in the opening quarter, getting a couple of threes from junior Nina Fox and junior Hadley Not Afraid scored a bucket for two-points.

Turner took a 17-8 lead into the second quarter of action. Turner kept attacking the Thunderbird defense and finding plenty of opportunities early on. Turner held the Thunderbirds to eight points, getting three from senior Imagin Fox, plus getting buckets down low from Walker and Nina Fox. The Tornadoes had a strong quarter, adding 15 more before the break. Freshman Allie Doyle drained a long ball and scored five for Turner. Reed added eight more to her point total and Snider added four more, leading the Tornadoes to a 32-16 lead at the break.

The teams played straight up basketball down the stretch. Doyle drilled three bombs from beyond the arc and scored 11 second half points. Paving the way for Turner to post a 48-32 win over the Thunderbirds. Reed led the Turner attack with 18 points in the win. Doyle turned in a solid 16-point effort for the Turner offense. The Thunderbirds were led by Fox with eleven and Walker with nine.

Turner will return to the court on Friday when the team will travel to Chester to take on the Hawks. On Saturday, the Tornadoes will welcome the Big Sandy Pioneers to town. Hays/Lodge Pole will head to Gildford to take on the North Star Knights. On Saturday they will welcome the Chester/Joplin-Inverness Hawks to the Thunderdome.
