Blaine County Library

January 24, 2024

Blaine County Library Board of Trustees will hold their regular monthly meeting Monday January 29th at 4:30 p.m. in the library meeting room.

We have had a lot of interest in checking out hotspots lately, which is great. We do want to make sure patrons understand you must have a library card and be in good standing to be able to check out a hotspot. So, you cannot come in and get a library card and immediately check out a hotspot. When a patron registers for a library card, we ask for a current mailing address, and we mail your card to you. After you have checked items out several times and returned them on time, you will be eligible to check out a hot spot. Hot spots are in high demand, and we almost always have a waiting list, so we recommend asking to be put on the hold list. We ask that you be respectful about picking up and returning the hot spots on time. After all, if you are waiting for a hot spot, you don’t want someone returning a hot spot late and making you wait for it.

Winter programs are now under way at the library. Some of our programs have changed and we altered the time a bit to allow kids to get home before dark. Monday will be 4th-8th grade activity from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. Tuesday will be Story Time from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. This program is for preschool and younger children. Hangout for grades 5-8 will be Tuesdays from 3:45-4:45 p.m. Wednesday will be Home School Hour from 1:30-2:30 p.m. This is a family led program, so if we don’t have volunteers to host the program, there won’t be one that week. We are happy to provide supplies for programs. If you would like to sign up to host, you can find a google doc signup sheet on our Facebook page, or you can contact Emily at the library. Teen Scene for teenagers 13 to 18 is every other Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursdays will be LEGO Club from 3:45-4:45 p.m. Fridays will be Movie Day. We will show a family friendly movie from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to join us. We do ask that no children under 5 attend movies without an adult. We provide snacks and drinks at all after school programs.

We have several new books ready this week. In “Fool Me Once” by Harlan Coben a widowed veteran gets the shock of her life in this impossible-to-put-down thriller. This is an older book that has been made into a Netflix series. “The Storm We Made” by Vanessa Chan is set in Malay (now Malaysia) during World War II and chronicles a mother and her children as they grapple with the consequences of colonial power and the shocking repercussions that follow for their family and their country. In “First Lie Wins” by Ashley Elston, Evie Porter has everything a nice, Southern girl could want: a perfect, doting boyfriend, a house with a white picket fence and a garden, a fancy group of friends. The only catch: Evie Porter doesn’t exist. This novel is a Reese’s Book Club selection. If non-fiction is your thing, we have “The Nazi Conspiracy: the Secret Plot to Kill Roosevelt, Stalin, and Churchill” by Brad Metzer and Josh Mensch.
