The Chinook Sugarbeeters participated in the Malta Invitational on Saturday, where many ‘Beeters found success on the podium and, for the Chinook girls, Sophomore Emma Klingaman won it all. The Harlem girls performed at the Cascade girls tournament, but the results were not posted on Track Wrestling. As for the Harlem Boys, they were hit with illness, but look to bounce back in time for Divisional.

Saturday in Malta, eighth grader, Hayden Berreth found success in the tournament winning the 120 pound weight class. Berreth went 3-0 on the weekend, winning the championship match by fall over Glasgow’s Tyler King in 1:33. Sophomore Fletcher Anderson also competed well on Saturday, placing second in the 132 pound weight class. Anderson went 2-1 where he lost in the Championship round by fall over Havre’s Reed Mantle in a time of 2:38.

Freshman Walter Schoen placed second in the 160 weight class with a 2-1 record on the day where he lost in the championship round by fall over Glasgow’s William Kirkland in a time of 4:25. Fellow freshman, Julian Powell, also found second place on the podium in the 285 weight class. Powell went 2-1 on the day and lost in the championship round to Havre’s Tommy Lewis by fall in a time of 2:17.

Sophomore Gauge Chapman placed third in the 138 pound weight class, going 3-1 on the day. Chapman lost in the 3rd place match by fall over Choteau’s Preston Lee in a time of :46.

On the girls’ side, sophomore Emma Klingaman went 2-0 and won the 132 pound weight division. Klingaman won the championship round by major decision over CJI’s Savannah Riggin by a score of 11-0.

Head Coach, Ben Stroh was very happy with the success of his team this weekend and believes his team can achieve great things come post season. “The team is really starting to peak at the right time. They came out and wrestled the best we have seen from this team. However, moving forward into divisionals, the team needs to understand how much they have improved. Everybody’s record is basically 0-0 because the postseason is a completely different animal than the regular season. It is time for this team to beat the people they have been beating and believe in their hearts and souls they can beat anybody in their respective brackets because our coaching staff sure believes it.”

The Harlem girls competed in Cascade this weekend, but their results were not posted on the official site. Head Coach, Jonny Baker noted that they performed well and saw continued growth in his girls. He was very pleased with their performance over the weekend. “The girls performed well at the Cascade girls tournament, and there were several good matches to get the rest of the bugs out of our system. The girls continued to improve and grow, which makes me confident that they will perform well at the upcoming divisional tournament.”

On the boys’ side, unfortunately, they were hit with the illness that has been reeking havoc in the area and were not able to compete this weekend. “ They are coming out of it and getting their vigor back as they prepare for that Big Show coming up. The nerves are high, but it’s good energy. I’m hoping the fire is burning to complete their mission of survival. We have a lot of talent and drive, we just have to put the mental game in place and they will make their mark.”
