Turner wins two - tops North Star and North Country

The Turner Tornadoes have proven to be a truly competitive team this season and picked up two wins this past weekend taking down the North Star Knights 55-40 at home, and the North Country Mavericks on the road in a hard fought 61-59 win to improve to 8-6 on the season.

Friday night against the Knights Turner took a big lead early, 20-4. The second quarter was a bit more competitive offensively with the tornadoes outscoring the Knights 12-10 to lead 32-14 at intermission. The teams traded buckets for the most part down the stretch and led to a Tornado 55-40 victory. Books were not received in time for individual stats.

Saturday, in North Country, Turner was looking to pick up another win in what they knew would be a competitive contest. Senior Ryan Doyle scored nine points including one from distance to help the Tornadoes keep close as they trailed 17-13 at the end of one. Doyle added another triple and seven points in the second while Junior Carson Maloney added a triple of his own and five points. Turner led 29-27 at the end of the first half. Coming out to start the third quarter the Tornadoes attack was led by three individuals with Doyle scoring six, Maloney adding four and Senior Trent Billmayer adding two sending the Tornadoes to the fourth quarter trailing 44-41. Down the stretch the team went 4-4 from the charity stripe while Maloney dropped in two triples and scored 10 in the quarter while Doyle added 8. In the end it was the Tornadoes that fought back for a 61-59 win. Leading the Tornadoes on the night was Doyle with 30 points, Maloney finished with 19 and Billmayer finished with eight. Turner will next play Box Elder at home on February 2nd and then head west to take on the Fort Benton Longhorns on February 3rd.
