Dinner Theatre Returns to Chinook and Launches in Turner

March 6, 2024

Montana Actors’ Theatre (MAT) will once again be holding a Dinner Theatre production at the Chinook Eagles on March 15 and 16 at 5:30 p.m. The Queen of Blaine County is a new script written by Jay Pyette, Executive Artistic Director for MAT, and personalized to Blaine County. The troupe will also be performing on April 6 in Turner.

In this show, directed by Anjanett Hawk and featuring the talent of Mark Cichosz, Andi Daniel, Bonnie Ortner, and TJ Schwartzkopf, the annual Blaine County Fair kicks off and the Queen of Blaine County will be crowned. The winner will not only have bragging rights but possess a coveted prize basket donated by both Tuckerson’s Hardware and the Guns and Embroidery Supply Store.

As the plot unfolds, outside forces infiltrate the contest. Californians, hippies, soccer moms, and even a branch of the Mafia (or a very, very, very distant cousin of the Mafia) are making it difficult for the local ranch wives, farm ladies, church choir, 4-H leaders, and other contestants to easily win. Devious plans and ruthless behaviors dominate the contest to become the Queen of Blaine County.

Beyond that plot summary, MAT personnel are describing the production as “a zany, fast-paced farce with four actors and about a zillion characters.”

Tickets are available at the Chinook Eagles, online at mtactors.com/tickets, or at MAT’s typical ticket vendors in Havre: Computer Center, Havre Chamber of Commerce, & Company Apparel, and Bear Paw Meats.

The ticket price includes dinner and the show, and reserved tables are available for purchase.

According to MAT Marketing and Development Director, Andi Daniel, the acting troupe will also take their show up north to perform in Turner on Saturday, April 6. More details will follow with that event’s evolution.

As the acting troupe travels from community to community, the play’s name will change, explained Pyette. “When we travel, the focus of the show becomes that particular county. So, when we go to Lewistown, The Queen of Fergus County will be the production’s name, in Shelby, The Queen of Toole County, etcetera. We also include quite a few local references in the production, like the name of a prominent family, a local bar, and so on. I’ve gathered all this information from those communities already,” Pyette said.

The schedule for this show includes six communities and the following dates:

• March 8 - Lewistown

• March 15-16 – Chinook

• March 22-23 - Havre

• March 29-30 - Havre

• April 6 - Turner

• April 12 - Shelby

• April 13 - Malmstrom Air Force Base
