The Harlem Public Library Board of Trustees meets today, March 27, at 4:30 P.M. in the library meeting room.

The Book Club’s new selection is “The Stone Sister” by Caroline Patterson. You may pick up your copy beginning this week and the fist discussion will be held Monday, April 8, 4 P.M.

The Book Challenge for April is to read a book about outer space, astronauts or aliens. If you have completed the March Book Challenge be sure to let the library know.

This is the last week to take advantage of the “Buy a Bag O’Books” promotion. You may fill a grocery sack full of used books for only one dollar!

Summer Reading will begin in just two months. The theme this year is “Adventure Begins at Your Library.” If you would like to donate to our Summer Reading Wishlist for 2024, you may order at https://tinyurl.com/SRP24. Thank you for your support.

There are two services the library offers to encourage reading with your children, or grand children, ages 0-5. The first is “1000 Books Before Kindergarten.” Just register your child at the library and they will receive a free board book! Keep track of every book read (repeat readings count) and when you reach the goals of 500 and 1000 your child will earn a prize from the library.

The second service is Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. If you have a child from 0-5 years old, register them today for free monthly books. You may enroll online at the library website http://www.harlempubliclibrary.org or at http://www.imaginationlibrary.com. You may also come to the library for a paper application form. Your child will receive a free, high quality book in the mail monthly until their fifth birthday.

New books this week include “The Berry Pickers” by Amanda Peters. Mi’kmaq (pronounced mee-gah-muhk) is a four-year-old girl who goes missing from the blueberry fields of Maine. This tragedy sparks a mystery that haunts the survivors, unravels a family, and remains unsolved for nearly fifty years.

The new Pike Logan action novel is “Dead Man’s Hand” by Brad Taylor. To finally put an end to the war between their nations a band of Ukrainian partisans team up with members of Russia’s military intelligence to assassinate Vladimir Putin. But Putin is aware of the traitors and assigns Victor Petrov to root them out. Pike Logan is sent to identify Petrov’s target and gets caught in the cross fire.

“A Sign of Her Own” is by Sarah Marsh. In this historical fiction story Alexander Graham Bell’s deaf former student, Ellen Lark, is asked to speak up in support of his claim to the patent of the telephone, which is being challenged by rival inventors. But Ellen has a different story to tell: that of how Bell betrayed her and other deaf pupils seeking his own ambition.

Other new titles include “Identity” by Nora Roberts, “The Deepest Kill” by Lisa Black and “The Atlas Maneuver,” a Cotton Malone novel, by Steve Berry.

“Friends and Fun” meets every Wednesday for a time of visiting, games and snacks. All adults are welcome.
