Instead of a traditional ribbon cutting to officially open the Fred Robinson Bridge in 1959, State Senator Fred Robinson, and Governor J. Hugo Aronson used a two man saw to cut a cottonwood log in half and symbolically open the bridge. Robinson spent nearly four decades advocating for the bridge across the Missouri River south of Malta and Hays.
