Christine Brown recently did a presentation in Harlem about barns in Montana. Brown is a member of the staff of the Montana Preservation Alliance in Helena. She told about a program currently in production by Montana PBS-TV that will follow the work to preserve historic buildings on the Bos Farm, now owned by John and Rose Brouwer, pictured here. John Bos, Sr,. a Dutch immigrant, bought the farm near Manhattan and began a serious building campaign. Many of the buildings he designed and built, in the early 1900's, still survive. He kept meticulous records about costs and time to build each structure. A blacksmith by trade, he built most of the hardware used on the barns and sheds.
