The Chinook Eagles Club hosted a Valentine's Day dinner to raise funds for the CHS chapter of Business Professionals of America. A scholarship is again offered by the North Central Montana Cattle Women and the North Central Montana Stock Growers. This annual scholarship is available to high school seniors and college students completing their sophomore year. Harlem, MT had a rough week, as a chlorine leak at the treatment plant drastically slowed down the rate at which the city was able to process clean drinking water. There was an increase in temperature, that caused a lead plug on the chlorine tank to melt, and leak the gas into the plant. Chlorine gas is extremely corrosive, and the gas also did a number on the electrical systems in the plant. Chlorine is necessary in the purification process of water in a plant such as the one found in Harlem....

The crew of Jackson Contracting Group began the process of replacing two lines of huge open-topped tanks that remove sediment from water at the Chinook water treatment plant Last week. The large tanks were built in Manchester, Tennessee and hauled, two per load, to the plant site for installation. The tanks were delivered two at a time for a combined total of around 30,000 pounds. The St. Mary Rehabilitation Working Group met on January 12, 2016 in Havre to discuss the their upcoming meeting with their water firm, Water Strategies, and hear updates on maintenance work being performed by the Bureau of Reclamation (BOR).
