MDT proposes road resurfacing East of Chinook

October 14, 2015

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to notify the public and seek comments on a proposal to resurface about 14.1 miles of U.S. Highway 2, east of Chinook. The project begins at the 15 Mile Creek Bridge at reference post 413.8 and extends east for 14.1 miles, ending at the boundary of the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation at reference post 427.9.

Proposed work includes milling the existing surface, applying a new plant mix overlay, seal and cover (chip seal), upgraded pavement markings, rumble strips, guardrail updates and replacement of a culvert. The purpose of the project is to extend the life of the roadway by replacing the existing deteriorated asphalt surfacing. Resurfacing and chip sealing will provide a smooth and safe roadway for the traveling public.

The project is tentatively scheduled for construction in 2018, depending on completion of all project development activities and availability of funding. No new right-of-way or utility relocations are anticipated.
