  • OUT OUR WAY: The Trinity

    Jul 1, 2026

Out our way, although rare, we still have mountain lion attacks. You may recall one Fall when a jogger and later a hunter were attacked and mauled while in the Bear Paws. Now I have never run into any up on “The Tiger Ridge” where we keep the cow/calf units , but also 6 bulls. However, the lions are still out there watching and waiting to sneak attack the unwary. I have had two run ins with “Lucifer Lion” - but no problem because I ride with “The Trinity”.I have shared the last incident with readers, but it is a good story ,so here it goes agai...

  • Looking out my Backdoor - My Farm Crisis

    Sondra Ashton|Jul 1, 2026

You can take the girl out of the farm but you can’t take the farmer out of the girl. Okay, so I don’t really have a farm, but I have a lovely mango tree in my back yard, and therein, my farm crisis. I’m standing at my window looking into my back yard at my mango tree, so loaded with fruit that we had to make stilts to keep the branches from breaking and to hold the fruit off the ground. Today the reason I’m standing in my house looking out is that the rain, has not let up, cycling, ‘round and ‘round, through drizzle, mizzle and pizzle to l...

    Chad Smith|Jun 24, 2026

In Joplin, a 55-year story of weeds, wind and community pride reaches a new milestone with the dedication of a Veterans Wall of Honor. It started with a troop of unruly boys and a field full of weeds. Fifty-five years ago, Priscilla Pimley, a Scout leader looking for a way to burn off her boys' excess energy and teach them to work for the good of the town, marched them over to an empty lot in the center of Joplin and put them to work pulling weeds. She didn't know it then, but she was planting...

  • Pastor's Corner: "I am healed"

    Rev Edroy CURT Curtis|Jun 24, 2026

Awhile ago I preached a message titled “I Am Healed.” Here are some highlights from that message: We have to be careful not to draw conclusions about the will of God based on bad experiences. Bad things happen all the time that God doesn’t desire. For example, in 2 PETER 3:9, the Apostle Peter says that it is God’s will that no one dies without first coming to salvation; yet unfortunately, unsaved people continue to die every day. The earthly reality of something doesn’t change God’s will. Most often something else is at work. As an illustra...

  • Hello God - It's me, Mara

    Jun 24, 2026

You know, Lord, several gals recently are NEW MOTHERS. They’re so excited; those babies are so cute and sweet; they can already SMILE! One older lady was admiring one of the ‘new’ babes in church and mentioned that when she had her first baby, a sweet little girl, her pastor mentioned Psalm 139:16 – since she had the our attention, as we were admiring the new baby, she repeated the verse: “Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in our book before one of them came to be.” One young lady looked at the new bab...

  • Out Our Way: Doc or Babe?

    Jun 24, 2026

Out of our way, besides pastoring a small church, I also rode with Charlie on the Tiger Ridge working Big Mike’s herd. I had two horses back then, Doc and Babe. Doc was big — 17 hands and 1200 pounds they tell me. He had a terrible gait — like riding a jack hammer. And 4 left feet (hooves), constantly tripping over himself and often tossing me. Babe was smaller — a beautiful sorrel paint and as smooth a trot, canter, or gallop as even the worst rider (yours truly) could handle. Yet I rode Doc on the Tiger. For all her beauty, smoothn...

  • Looking Out My Backdoor: The Sorcerer's Apprentice

    Sondra Ashton|Jun 24, 2026

Remember when you were eighteen and dumber than a rock but thought you knew it all? Me, I wasn’t about to dedicate my life to being my Dad’s housekeeper, cook and bottle washer, so I showed him. I got married. We newlyweds lived in a house made of three granaries knocked together, with no water, no bathroom, but, we had more than some. We had electricity. We had a good deep well with delicious water. Coming from a valley farm with soda water, that well water was fine stuff. In a way, we had running water. I ran it into the house in ten...

  • OUT OUR WAY: " Check your 6"

    Jun 17, 2026

Out our way, now and then folks have to deal with cougars. I recall a jogger who was attacked from behind by a mountain lion … and later on, a hunter who, while hunting elk, was being hunted himself. In both cases, the attacks came from behind. I had two run-ins with lions over the years, but I was not alone. True, I did not know the lions were there — but Doc, my quarter horse — and Jack, my Rez dog did. Long before an attack was possible, the big cats had been spotted and the sneak attacks thwarted. I recall that scripture: “He watchin...

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” – Micah 6:8 As Christians and citizens of the United States, we celebrate our flag and our nation’s 250th anniversary with grateful hearts. This milestone invites us to reflect on God’s blessings, the freedoms we cherish, and the calling to seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with Him as we honor those who have made this nation possible. On Flag Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and especiall...
