The Boys basketball program in Harlem is now under the direction of Head Coach Terry Kulbeck.

Kulbeck is no stranger to the coaching ranks as he has coached approximately 30 teams over the years. He played basketball for Harlem and MSU-Northern.

Kulbeck coached 2 years at Hays, coaching both the Hays-Lodge pole girls and boys varsity and he coached the Harlem Varsity Lady-Cats 2 years.

Kulbeck also coached several teams while serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer Basketball Coach in Senegal, West Africa for three years. While serving two years in Belize, Central America as an Agriculture Extension Agent he coached four basketball teams.

Kulbeck welcomes back seniors Michael Butterfly, Keahna Little (Captain), Marcus Henry and Cole Azure.

Juniors this winter are Eron Snow, Corbin Brockie, Jaden Beaumont, Terry Sandcrane Jr. (Captain), Austin Stewart, Damon Adams and Hollin Fox. Sophomore Tevin Messerly fills out the roster.

"We have a young team with very little varsity experience so this will be a rebuilding year. There will be no easy games, we have a lot of work to do. Focused attention and positive attitude before each game is crucial," Kulbeck said.

A positive environment is definitely something Coach Kulbeck will try to create. "After each game and at the end of the season I want each of them to be able to look in the mirror and say three things. I played every play to the best of my ability, regardless of the score I never quit on my teammates or coaches and I played with heart and intense concentration," stated Kulbeck.

The Wildcats open this Friday at the annual Native American Classic played in the Armory Gymnasium on the campus of MSU-Northern in Havre.

The Box Elder Bears will be their opponent Friday night and will prove to be a stern test for the young Wildcats but regardless of the outcome, getting better each time out and having fun doing it is the real prize.

"Success is not just about the number of wins and losses but being the best that you can be while playing the fun sport of basketball," said Kulbeck.

"It may take us 10 or 12 games to learn to execute the offensive and defensive strategies as a unified team, but we should be very tough at tournament time. It will take us some time to build team chemistry and confidence to face any situation but I have great faith in our boys and I am proud to be their coach," Kulbeck concluded.

The Wildcats will play Kanai Saturday. They will travel to Malta on December 18 to begin conference play and host Wolf Point on December 19.
