'Beeters knocking the rust off, getting better following matches at home and in Glasgow

restling program is still battling a bit of the injury bug but those competing on the mat are improving each time out.

"We're starting to knock some of the rust off and the kids are really getting better," said co-head coach Adam Tilleman.

Chinook was at home Friday night for the first of two appearances in front of the home crowd prior to the Divisional Tournament in February. Saturday the team traveled to Glasgow to face some tough competition from the east.

"We got hit with some injuries this weekend as (senior Jake) Norby has to go get checked again and (senior Kevin) Young and (sophomore Garrett) Lowham are still nursing injuries and haven't been cleared yet," stated Tilleman.

Norby had wrestled well Friday having won all three of his matches by pinfall.

Senior Derek Bell, senior Kenny Pruttis, senior Jesse Dannels and junior Tate Niederegger all went undefeated in front of the hometown crowd, winning all their matches by pin.

In Glasgow, freshman Ross Reid went 4-1 including a 9-0 major decision over Oden Hallock of Glasgow and three by pinfall.

Freshman James Buffington secured a pair of wins as well going 2-3. Senior Bubba Rimkus was 2-3 in Glasgow with both wins coming via the pin.

Niederegger ranked number one at 145 pounds in the latest polls weighed in and wrestled at 138 pounds and still kept his winning streak in tacked with a 5-0 mark. Niederegger won three matches by pin along the way.

Bell, currently ranked number five at 160 pounds, was 4-0 with three matches decided by pin.

Senior Jesse Dannels was number three at 182 and was declared winner by pinfall in three matches while finishing the Glasgow invitational with a 4-0 mark.

Norby earned a second place ranking at 152 as did Pruttis at 170. Young was ranked number three at 205.

The team will head to Fort Benton Thursday before heading to Great Falls to compete in the CMR Holiday Classic and Bison JV Tournament.

"The Classic is a good tournament for our quality athletes to get tested," Tilleman stated. The opportunity for the younger kids to get quality experience is also bountiful at the Bison tournament. He added, "The younger kids have the opportunity to get mat time against similar quality competition that will help them improve."

The team will return to the mat January 2 in Shelby.
