A crane from Baltrusch Construction, in Havre, had to be called to move a semi-tractor and trailer crash last week at the drainage near the Red Rock Creek Bridge west of Chinook on Highway 2. The crash occurred about 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16. The truck caught the guardrail and skidded off the highway. The tractor and trailer remained connected with the trailer still on the highway and the tractor dangling off the road. Ace Towing, also from Havre, assisted with the separation of the trailer and the tractor and the removal of the crashed vehicle. The driver, from North Dakota, was not seriously injured but the cargo, an MRI medical imaging machine, was damaged. According to Blaine County Undersheriff Frank Billmayer, highway traffic had to be rerouted onto the old highway and around the crash site for about three to four hours during the cleanup. Montana DOT began the process of repairing the guardrail. About 200 gallons of diesel fuel was released into the drainage area. Montana Department of Environmental Quality is monitoring the spill.
