Wildcats close, but fall short in 61-57 loss to Rocky Boy

December 30, 2015

The Harlem Wildcats again found themselves on the wrong side of a down to the wire basketball game as they fell in a tightly contested contest with the Rocky Boy Stars last Tuesday, 61-57.

As seems to be the case this season the Wildcats put themselves in hole early and battled their way back.

Harlem spotted the Stars a 14-7 advantage after one before getting the offense rolling in the second quarter as they put up 18 in the stanza to trim the deficit to 26-25 by halftime.

Senior Keahna Little led the charge, scoring eight in the quarter to fuel the comeback for the Wildcats.

The teams matched each other step for step in the third quarter as the Stars managed to maintain their one point advantage, 41-40, heading into the fourth quarter.

The Wildcats got a big three point bucket and five points from junior Corbin Brockie and six points from senior Michael Butterfly in the fourth quarter to help keep Harlem within reach.

The Stars then scored 20 points down the stretch to grind out a hard fought 61-57 win over the Wildcats.

The loss drops Harlen to 0-2 in District 2B play and 1-4 overall.

The Wildcats were balanced in their attack as they had four players in double figures.

Little and Brockie each tossed in 12 points in the contest while Butterfly and junior Terry Sandcrane Junior each added 10 in the non-conference clash.

The Wildcats and Head Coach Terry Kulbeck had a couple of close calls in their memory bank. The team has made great strides to begin the season and the break will give them an opportunity to learn their offense and defensive schemes a little more.

Kulbeck has talked about it taking 8-10 games for the kids to fully learn a brand new offensive and defensive scheme that he has implemented.

The team hopes to build on the steps taken over the break before returning to the court in the new year on January 2 when they will travel to Cut Bank to face the Wolves in a non-conference clash.

The team will make its first appearance of the new year January 8 when they will host the Chinook Sugarbeeters.
