Harlem Elementary Winter Luau

February 10, 2016

Although the month of January is usually much colder, this year's almost balmy weather played right into the scenario surrounding Harlem Elementary's Winter Luau showcase. Tropical backdrops and Hawaiian scenery greeted students, family, and friends as they perused each grade level's showcase.

Kindergarten through sixth grade chose topics which they investigated, researched, collected data for, and finally turned into visual props for their projects. The halls were filled with décor ranging from surf boards, waterfalls, beach balls, and volcanoes, to Tiki huts, Polynesian masks, palm trees, and beautiful tropical flowers and birds.

Additionally, everyone had the opportunity to pose for Hawaiian photos, participate in scavenger hunts, pin the apple in the pig's mouth, create beautiful leis, and for the truly adventurous, limbo with the 2nd graders!

The Luau put a fun twist on our usual annual Winter Wonderland showcase, and provided the needed incentive to push on through the remainder of the winter season.
