Hays/L.P. sweeps Turner, Fort Benton, now 10-6

Above Turner freshman Cody Welsh rises above the Thunderbird defense during action in Hays Friday night. The Thunderbirds won the contest 90-34.

The Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds improved to 9-4 in District 9C play and 10-6 overall following a pair of conference wins over Turner 90-34 Friday night and Fort Benton 77-38 on Saturday.

The Tornadoes stayed with the Thunderbirds early as Hays/Lodge Pole held a 20-12 lead entering the second quarter.

Six Thunderbirds scored in the opening stanza while the Tornadoes were paced by sophomore Eddie Harmon,

The second quarter has all Hays/Lodge Pole as they exploded for 30 points in the quarter. Thane Hegelson scored eight, Chance Main six and Jace Shambo, Tyson Shambo and Frank RunsAbove each adding four a piece giving the home team a 50-24 lead over Turner at the break.

RunsAbove scored eleven third quarter points including a triple as the Thunderbirds extended the lead to 73-32 with eight minutes remaining.

With the score as it was everyone dressed got into the contest and contributed.

Brian Wing Junior score six points in the fourth quarter and David Main added four as the Thunderbirds took the 90-34 win.

RunsAbove led the Thunderbirds with 19 points. Hegelson added 13, Chance Main 12 and Jace Shambo 10 in the win. Harmon and senior Tyler Humphreys paced the Tornado effort.

No box score was reported for the contest with the Longhorns.
