Scott DePriest, co-owner of American Garage, with his 'consumables dispensing machine.' The idea is to make consumables immediately accessible, track them for a specific job and place orders for replacements to the supplier.

Chinook's American Garage shop looked more like a dining hall than a repair facility as the business welcomed a large number of guests for the Chamber's Business After Hours February event. American Garage staff had cleared out the repair bays, shelved and stored the normal tools of their trade and set up tables to serve a taco soup supper and share information about their products and services.

Heather and Scott DePriest own and operate American Garage. Started in 2006 and at their current location since 2012, Heather said in the 10 years they've been serving the Chinook area they've serviced 15,000 vehicles. Describing the business' specialty as diagnosing needed repairs for vehicles from passenger cars to diesel trucks, she added, "Scott and I are humbled by the support of our business from customers and friends."

After introducing each of the business' seven employees, Heather described the many services and products American Garage offers to its customers. Since 2010 they've been selling used vehicles and helping customers locate new vehicles as well. She said, "If it's vehicle-related, we do it." The garage has recently added a new line of products for maintaining vehicles and beginning mid-March American Garage will be leasing and renting U-Haul equipment.

American Garage hosted the February Business After Hours event. Staff had cleared the work bays, set up banquet tables and served a taco supper as part of the Chamber's program to showcase local businesses.

Earlier the DePriests had noted the level of education attained by all their service specialists. They now have seven employees, all graduates from Blaine County high schools with six graduates from Chinook High. American Garage has a long tradition of serving the vehicular needs of the region. Co-owner Scott is the third generation of his family to be involved in the automotive related business, starting with his grandfather, Jack, who operated a trucking business which began in 1943. American Garage's current location was once a GMC dealership operated by the DePriest family.

Guests enjoyed the soup supper and a chance to learn about the American Garage. The Chinook Chamber's Business After Hours program is in its third year giving locals a chance to visit and learn about local businesses in a relaxed atmosphere, after normal working hours. Business After Hours is currently scheduled at the American Lutheran Church for March.
