March 9, 2016

With the conclusion of the boy’s state basketball tournaments last weekend post season awards are being released.

In all eight student athletes from Blaine County were recognized for their efforts on the court. Three Chinook Sugarbeeters were recognized as were three Harlem Wildcats and two Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds.

Hays/Lodge Pole junior Frank RunsAbove earned first team All-Conference Honors for the second time. In addition his stellar play earned him a spot on the Northern C All-State list as well.

RunsAbove was a steady contributor on both sides of the ball for the Thunderbirds this season in helping the team earn a trip back to the Northern C Divisional.

RunsAbove was joined but teammate Tyson Shambo on the District 9C All-Conference list. Shambo received the award for the third time.

Shambo is a deep threat with remarkable range while RunsAbove can get to the hoop, both are active defensively and will look to lead the Thunderbirds next winter.

Chinook Sugarbeeter senior Ian McIntosh was named to the All-Conference first team for the third time in his stellar career.

McIntosh was a do all kind of player for the ‘Beeters, he could score if needed to, he could defend the opposing teams best perimeter player and was an adept passer.

Joining McIntosh on the All-Conference list are freshman Isaac Bell and Cord Schneider.

Schneider and Bell were both selected to the second team for their outstanding play on the court.

The Sugarbeeters relied on the post play of their young freshman both offensively and defensively throughout the season.

Bell and Schneider led the Sugarbeeters in several categories this season including points, rebounds, field goal percentage and blocked shots.

The duo played well together and are very good in the passing game and transition game as both can get up and down the court really well.

The Wildcats made it back to the Northern B Divisional this season and a large part of the reason for that was the stellar play of senior Marcus Henry, senior Keahna Little and senior Michael Butterfly.

Henry and Little were both selected to the District 2B first team while Butterfly was named to the second team.

Henry had a great second half of the season and exploded as an offensive threat with the ability to knock down the triple or penetrate to the basket.

Henry could score in burst and in one contest scored 22 straight points for the Wildcats.

Little and Butterfly are quick athletic players that proved effective in transition.

The Wildcats were under the direction of first year head coach Terry Kulbeck and the leadership of these three seniors helped deliver the message to the team.

Blaine County athletes were well represented on the All-Conference lists and can expect great high school basketball to continue when the teams take to the court again in December.
