March 9, 2016

The Harlem girls basketball program took some huge steps forward this season and advanced to the Northern B Divisional following two wins at the District 2B tournament, a feat that hadn’t been achieved in a long time.

The Northern B Divisional however has produced the last nine state champions and presents a challenge to even the most experienced of teams.

Harlem opened the tournament Thursday against the Choteau Bulldogs, the number two seed out of the District 1B.

In a rough opening 16 minutes Harlem fell behind early, trailing 34-11 at the halftime intermission

The second half the Wildcats were much more competitive, staying even with the Bulldogs, scoring 20 to their 21.

Harlem fell 55-31in the opener. Freshman Skylee Dirden led the offense with eight points.

In loser out action Friday morning the girls took the court to face the Shelby Coyotes.

Harlem stayed close through the opening quarter trailing just 13-9 entering the second. The Coyotes caught fire in the second and third quarters outscoring Harlem 41-11 to take control of the contest and eventually winning 68-41.

Senior Brooke LeValdo paced Harlem with 12 points in her final game. Freshman Autumn Eagleman scored six and Dirden chipped in eight in the loss.

Harlem graduates five seniors but returns a talented group of young talent and will look to continue to improve next season.
