Chinook girls, Harlem boys third at District 9C, District 2B Track and Field meets

Thinclads from Chinook, Hays/Lodge Pole and Turner competed in the District 9C Track and Field meet in Havre Friday. The Harlem Wildcats traveled to Glasgow Saturday to compete in the District 2B meet..

Both the Chinook girls and the Harlem boys competed very well each finishing third in their respective district.

The Sugarbeeters qualified seven girls and six boys for the Northern C Divisional in Great Falls this Thursday. The Hays/Lodge Pole boys will send five athletes to Great Falls while the Turner Tornadoes will have five girls and six boys making the trip top the Northern C.

The Harlem Wildcats will send five boys and one girl to the North B Divisional, also in Great Falls on Saturday.

For the Chinook girls, sophomore Abby Ellison won the triple jump for the 9C girls with a hop, skip and jump of 32’9.5”. Ellison also finished fifth in the long jump (14’1.5”).

The Sugarbeeter girls team also had three second place finishes as senior Kailey Kleinjan crossed the line with a time of :13.49 in the 100 meter dash. Kleinjan ran the 200 meter dash very well, again finishing second with a split of :28.25.

Freshman Kourtney Hanson finished second in both the 800 and the 1600 meters runs as she continued to excel in the distance races.. Hanson recorded a time of 2:37.80 in the 800 meter run and 5:54.70 in the 1600 meter.

Junior Brooke Elliot scored solid points for the ‘Beeters in field picking up a second place finish in the discus with a recorded throw of 90’1”. Elliot added a fourth in the shot put as well.

Junior Taylor Neibauer finished third in the 100 meter hurdles as well as the 300 meter hurdle race.

Junior Rochelle Chaffin qualified third in the triple jump. Also making the trip to the divisional meet will be freshman Megan Molyneaux with a third place finish in the 100 meter dash.

Molyneaux, Ellison, Chaffin and Kleinjan finished second in the short relay for the ‘Beeters. Kleinjan, Hanson, Neibauer and Chaffin were second in the long relay.

Turner sophomore Jaye Anderson qualified individually for the Tornadoes with a time of :29.25 in the 200 meter dash, good for fourth.

Turner freshman Raegan Conlan will also make the trip following a fourth place finish in the 800 meter run.

The Tornado girls also qualified their short relay team with a fourth place finish.

Harlem senior Emma Humphreys is the lone Wildcat girl advancing to the Northern B after finishing third in both the shot put and the discus.

A big highlight for the Harlem boys was the shot put throw of Reece Hutton who set a new school record for the Wildcats and finished first with a throw of 50’0.75”. Hutton also finished third in discus with a flip of 122’8”.

Harlem’s Corbin Brockie also had a first place finish on the day, as he won the triple jump with a leap of 40’1”.

In the sprints Wildcat Damon Adams swept the 100 and 400 meter dash with a time of :11.67 and :52.28, respectively. Adams also added a second in the 200 meter dash and a third in the long jump.

Junior Tyus Hammett will make the trip to the Northern B in the high jump (third), 300 meter hurdles (fourth) and the 110 meter hurdles (fourth).

The Wildcats also qualified both their short and long relays for next weeks event.

The Turner boys were led by the efforts sophomore Eddie Harmon. Harmon won the 400 meter dash with a fast lap of :54.77.

Harmon also added a second place finish in the 100 meter dash and a second in the 800 meter run.

Sophomore hurdler Damian Schuhmacher turned in a great effort in the 110 meter race as he finished second with a time of :20.62.. Sophomore Cody Welsh also picked up a second place finish in the 300 meter hurdles clocking in at :46.88. Senior Bret VanValkenburg qualified with a fifth place finish in the 800 meter run.

The Turner boys also qualified both their long and short relay teams.

For the Chinook boys it was Kyler Johnson excelling in the distance races. Johnson finished first in the 1600 meter with a time of 4:58.10, he also finished second in the 3200 and fourth in the 800 with times of 11:00.90 and 2:12.40 respectively.

Senior Chase Lenz (fifth, triple jump) and freshman Cord Schneider (fifth, javelin) also qualified individually for the divisional meet.

The Chinook boys will also send both the short and long relay teams to Great Falls.

The Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds received another strong performance from Isiah RunsAbove as he finished second in the 1600 meter run (5:02.80). RunsAbove also finished third in the high jump.

Hays/Lodge Pole also qualified Gilbert Snow in the high jump as he finished second with a cleared height of 5’4”. Desmond Shambo finished fifth in the event.

Tough Snow finish finished fifth in the 3200 meter run. Gilbert Snow finished fifth in the 1600 meter run.

The Thunderbirds also qualified both their short and long relays for the Northern C. The top five finishers advance to the State C in Missoula next week.
