Chinook, Harlem swimmers head to Hamilton for state swim, perform well at Eastern Divisional

Chinook's Daniel Tilleman gets off to a good start in the 8 and under boys 25 Meter Freestyle. Tilleman won the event with a fast lap of :17.91.

The Montana Federation of Swimmers Eastern divisional was held in Malta this past weekend. Teams from Chinook and Harlem were on hand for the event.

With everything on the line swimmers looked to finish in the top 12 in their respective events and advance to the State swim meet in Hamilton this Saturday and Sunday.

At the end of the day the Chinook Lions qualified 45 swimmers individually for the state meet including 13 relay teams. Harlem will send ten individuals to compete next week on the big stage.

Chinook's Daniels Tilleman along with Harlem's Andrew Rasmussen took home High Point honors as they continue to swim at a high level.

Tilleman and Rasmussen both made clean sweeps of their three individual events.

Tilleman first won the eight and under boys 25 Meter Freestyle with a time of :17.91. Later he added a first place finish in the 25 Meter Breaststroke with a split of :27.67. Tilleman capped of his weekend with a win in the 50 Meter Freestyle, completing the two lengths of the pool in :37.77.

Rasmussen began his divisional swim by capturing the top spot Saturday morning in the 11-12 boys 200 Meter Individual Medley. Rasmussen was in a tight race for much of the race before pulling away from his competitors in the end to win with a time of 3:02.73.

Rasmussen was just as successful Sunday with wins in the 100 Meter Freestyle (1:06.93) and the 50 Meter Backstroke (:37.58).

The Chinook Lions youngest swimmers again dominated the relays. The eight and under boys team of Nathaniel Plainfeather, Brockton Elliot, Kohen Sullivan and Tilleman easily won the 100 Meter Freestyle Relay Saturday morning (1:16.67) and the 100 Meter Medley Relay on Sunday (1:30.75).

The boys have established several pool records this summer and have set the standard for the federation in the freestyle relay twice. This weekend the quartet will look to establish new state marks in Hamilton.

Brockton Elliot has been very successful all season in the pool and Sunday won the 100 Meter Individual Medley, completing the four disciplines in 1:54.32. He later completed his divisional by winning the 25 Meter Butterfly with a slit of :18.84.

Kohen Sullivan has been impressive for the Lions as well and added a win in the 25 Meter Backstroke (:22.57) to the team point total.

Tilleman captured the top spot in the 25 Meter Breaststroke covering the distance in :22.57 to win the event.

Tilleman joined Alexus Seymour, Jeni Mord and Mara Edwards to finish third in both the freestyle and medley relays.

.The Lions 11-12 boys relay teams achieved all they could at the Eastern Divisional as they won both relay events.

Jackson Schmele, Oskar Pula, Brad Borjas and Benton Elliot teamed up to win the 200 Meter Freestyle relay finishing with a time of 2:16.25.

The quartet teamed up again Sunday morning and turned the trick again winning the 200 Meter Medley with a time of 2:44.42.

Harlem's Taggert Devaney has been a standout swimmer for quit some time and continues to perform very well in the pool.

Saturday in Malta Devaney captured a second place finish in the 13-14 boys 200 Meter Individual Medley to get the weekend started.

Chinook's Brockton Elliot begins the second leg of the 8 and Under boys 100 Meter Relay. Both of these teams won their race.

Sunday he turned it up a notch as he first won the 100 Meter Breaststroke with a time of 1:24.50. Later he added a top finish in the 100 Meter Backstroke touching the wall in 1:20.32 to win the event.

The Lions Britton Elliot has been a steady point scorer for the team all summer long and had a fine showing in the pool this weekend.

Britton captured a pair of runner up finishes over the course of the two day meet. She finished second in the 9-10 girls 100 Meter Medley with a time of 1:36.56. Elliot touched the pad in :36.45 to finish second in the 50 Meter Freestyle.

Belle Elliot added to the Lions team point total with a strong showing in the 50 Meter Breaststroke finishing second with a time of :53.07.

Cherish Borjas continued to excel in the pool this summer as she won the 11-12 girls 50 Meter Freestyle with a time of :32.47.
