Chinook Golf Course Fireball Tournament this Saturday

The Chinook Golf Course and Country Club is set to hold its annual Fireball Tournament this Saturday.

The Fireball has become one of those tournaments golfers from all over the hi-line look forward to.

What began as a fundraiser for the course to raise money to pay off the clubhouse has become a feature event of the course filling the field each year.

Last years tournament saw the field expand from 18 teams to 20 to try and accommodate interested players. This year another large field is in the works.

The tournament setup is a four-person scramble and includes hole prizes, a ‘Deuce Pot’, team and individual mulligans and a meal.

The club also awards cash prizes to the top three teams (net and gross) and includes a Calcutta prior to the start of play. The Calcutta winner is determined by each teams play on the back nine.

The course has undergone several improvements this year including refurbished tee boxes plus two new sand bunkers on hole number five as well as a brand new tee box of its own to provide golfers with two looks at what is arguably the courses signature hole.

The Fireball always been primarily a local Hi-Line tournament and has been very popular throughout the years with many teams returning year to year but as is always the case a few new faces can be seen each year.

The course has been busy this summer and now also features a fully functional Pro Shop being ran by Brent Schellin.

This added feature has been extremely popular and gives members and guests alike the opportunity to pick up golf supplies, snacks or beverages throughout the day.

The course host several events throughout the summer including, receptions, graduation parties, reunions and social gatherings.

The course holds several tournaments each season in addition to the Fireball. A 27 hole two person scramble, scotch and best ball tournament and the Greenskeepers Revenge were held in June. The Club Championship was held the first week of August and September is expected to see the Finley Par 3 Challenge and Maurice Harshman tournaments take place.

The Men’s League Playoffs begin this Wednesday.
