Lita Buck has started her duties as Postmaster at the Chinook Post Office on August 22. Buck came from Geraldine where she was Postmaster. She and her husband, Rodger, have four grown daughters and six grandchildren. The Bucks still farm in the Geraldine area.

Lita Buck began her new duties as the Postmaster in Chinook on August 22. Buck relocated to the area from Geraldine where she worked from 2011 until mid-2016 for the Postal Service. She was the Postmaster in Geraldine when the Post Plan reduced hours at the Geraldine facility. She opted to transfer to Chinook for a full-time position as Postmaster.

After graduation from Broadwater High School, in Townsend, Buck attended Western Montana College for two years. She and her husband, Rodger, were married in 1980 and have four grown daughters and six grandchildren, all living in Montana.

Before joining the Postal Service, Buck cooked at the Geraldine school for 19 years and then was a cook in Geyser for five more years. For several years she, Rodger and some of their daughters did seasonal contracts with the Forest Service, operating their own firefighting truck for wildfires. The Bucks continue to farm near Geraldine.

In 2011 Lita joined the Geraldine Post Office as a Postmaster Relief and by 2012 was the Officer in Charge. The national reduction in hours became localized for the Geraldine Post Office in May, 2013. Buck became Postmaster for Geraldine in January, 2015.

In response to working as the new Postmaster in Chinook she said, "I love my job, especially meeting new people." She admitted she is "lousy with names" but added, "if people give me some time I'll get their names right." Asked about changes patrons can expect she said, "I really like to have things clean. That will be one of my goals, to keep a clean facility." She also said, "On holidays, especially Halloween and Thanksgiving, customers can expect homemade cookies when they come into the Post Office."

Noting that Halloween is one of her favorites holidays, she already added a few 'fall decorations' behind the counter in the customer service area. Of the pumpkins displayed she said, "I brought a couple of those from home and found a couple of them in the Post Office while I was cleaning."

The "Journal" welcomes Lita Buck to our community and wishes her well in her new position..
