Perry Miller, pictured, and the rest of the Miller Brothers Tree Service recently trimmed the trees in the Blaine County Veterans' Memorial Park. Ray Reid, local VFW Commander, sought to have the pocket park in downtown Chinook 'spruced up' and the Chinook Lions Club funded the trimming project..

Local Veteran of Foreign Wars Commander Ray Reid has a passion for recognizing and honoring veterans. He's been one of the driving forces behind the Blaine County Veterans' Memorial Park (a permanent display listing veterans from and connected to Blaine County), located in Inman Park in downtown Chinook. After 10+ years since the park was opened, Reid felt the area needed 'sprucing up' and began looking for a local group to do the tree-trimming.

After some study of the size of the trees in the pocket park, it was decided the trimming should be done by a group with the necessary equipment and skills for high angle trimming. The Chinook Lions Club agreed to provide the funds to do the trimming.

On a Sunday toward the end of August, Miller Brothers Tree Service did the work. Perry Miller, one of the trimmers, said he didn't know of any major pruning and trimming that had been done in the pocket park since it was first created more than a decade ago. The work was completed in an afternoon.

The "Journal" thanks Ray Reid for his efforts in keeping the Blaine County Veterans' Memorial Park in good condition and for the Chinook Lions support of the beautification project.
