What 'Cher Point?

Several things happened this week in the wonderful world of football that were mildly disturbing.

Colin Kaepernick would not stand for the National Anthem during two pre season football games. While most thought he was protesting the flag, it seems that was not the case. He was protesting police brutality to other than the white race. One day to further show his displeasure with the police, he wore sox that had pigs on them wearing police caps. At this writing another team mate has joined Kaepernick’s protest from the San Francisco 49er team and a Seattle Seahawk has taken to not standing for the National Anthem as well.

If I had a complaint about this it would be that this is the worst political season I have ever seen in my life. Neither Presidential candidates do I want to vote for in fact mildly dislike is too little a description of the feelings I have for those two.

But, please, just leave our football alone. Protest somewhere else. Let us have one place we can snuggle in our recliner next to the flat screen and the fireplace with a brandy and dog at our side and just enjoy what is the one thing that can stand on its own so far as sportsmanship goes. Now, mind you the NFL has gone a long way to make professional football political too but it is not like real life in the life of our country.

And if Colin Kaepernick wants to protest police brutality he should be able to but not on the football field. That place belongs to all of us, not just to him.

Considering the Kaepernick kerfuffle, my other gripe of the week is tiny. It is that the Patriots let Tom Brady play a whole half in the Giants game. By the way, Brady did not do well with, I recall, one touchdown and one interception. But why in the world was coach Belichick letting Brady play when he can’t play for four beginning of the season games? That is insane. If Jimmy Garoppolo is going to be the starting quarterback for the Patriots for the first four games, give him the experience in the last pre season game. Well, the Giants won the game and now the pre season is over but one would wonder!

Some have said that when the Texans beat the Cards in a pre season game, Brock Osweiler looked great by throwing for 146 yards and a touchdown. Way to go Brock!

If you are a Viking fan you are in mourning as quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will be out for the rest of the season with a dislocated knee and a torn ACL. Sad thing is there are few quarterbacks available at this writing although after teams were cut this last weekend, maybe there will be more floating around.

Bobcat coach Jeff Choate started his record at MSU with a loss as the Cats lost to Idaho 20 to 17. The Bobcats didn’t look all that bad. Let’s see what happens in game two.

That leads to some predictions for next weekend.

Havre beats Miles City, Harlem loses to Rocky Boy, Chinook beats Belt and the Thunderbirds lose to Fort Benton.

Montana beats Northern Iowa and Montana State beats Bryant.

Northern loses to Montana Tech and Rocky loses to Carroll.

In the NFL hold on to your hats because on Thursday Carolina beats Denver

Sunday it is Atlanta over Tampa, Baltimore over Buffalo and Houston over Chicago.

It is Green Bay over Jacksonville, Kansas City over San Diego and Oakland over New Orleans for an upset of the week.

The Jets beat Cincinnati, Philadelphia beats Cleveland and Tennessee beats Minnesota.

It is Seattle over Miami, The Giants over Dallas and Indianapolis over Detroit. It is New England over Arizona for a Sunday night game.

Two games on Monday night, Pittsburgh loses to Washington and the Rams beat San Fran.

That’s my story and I am sticking to it. Go Thunderbirds!
