Thunderbirds fall to Centerville 28-26

Hays/Lodge Pole junior running back Chance Main scores a touchdown for the Thunderbirds in the Northern C contest with the Centerville Miners, Saturday at Sullivan Fieled in Hays. Centerville topped the Thunderbirds 28-26.

The Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds have been in some battles this season with every game being contested and exciting.

The 1-2 Thunderbirds were looking to even there record heading into the contest with the Centerville Miners Saturday afternoon at Sullivan field in Hays.

The Miners also possessed a 1-2 record setting the stage for a competitive afternoon of eight man football.

The game was close throughout and was tied at eight apiece prior to the Centerville taking a 14-8 lead.

The Thunderbirds fought back and held 26-22 advantage late in the third quarter before seeing the Minors score at the end of the stanza to hold a 28-26 advantage entering the fourth quarter.

Thunderbirds defense stood tall and held the Miners out of the end zone over the final 12 minutes but the offense was unable to find paydirt giving the Thunderbirds another tough two point loss at the midpoint of the season.

The Thunderbirds 28-26 defeat drops them to 1-3 in the tough Northern C.

Hays/Lodge Pole will hit the road this weekend to face the Cascade Badgers in a very winnable contest.

The Thunderbirds will the travel to Belt to take on the Huskies before returning home October 8 to face the Power-Dutton-Brady Titans.
