Sugarbeeters fall to Chester-Joplin-Inverness, 46-36

The Chinook Sugarbeeters fell to 2-4 on the season following a tough 46-36 road loss to the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks.

The Sugarbeeters got off to the fast start they were looking for, jumping out to a 16-0 lead early in the contest.

Junior JJ Colby scored the first touchdown on a 3 yard plunge. Junior Steven Mulonet hooked up with senior Kyler Johnson for the conversion.

Senior Tate Niederegger found the end zone next on a 15 yard scamper and Colby added the conversion run for the early lead.

The Hawks responded with three straight scores before Niederegger answered with his second touchdown run of the half from 14 yards out. C-J-I took a 24-22 lead into halftime.

The Hawks scored the opening two touchdowns of the third quarter to extend the advantage to 38-22.

Niederegger continued to run hard and scored a late third quarter touchdown on a 16 yard sprint to paydirt as the teams entered the fourth quarter with the Hawks holding a 28-26 lead.

Chester J-I extended the scoring difference to 46-28 moments into the final quarter.

Sophomore James Christensen scrambled his way through the defense on a 28 yard scoring run to provide the final points of a 46-36 contest.

The 'Beeters will be back at Hoon Field this Friday as they will welcome the Great Falls Central Catholic Mustangs to town. It is the 'Beeters final home contest of the season and they will honor their seniors at halftime of the contest.
