Tonight at 6 P.M. is the Friends of the Harlem Public Library annual membership meeting. A salad supper will be served followed by the business meeting. Dues of $10 may be paid at this meeting. All members and those interested in joining are encouraged to attend. In these difficult economic times, the library especially appreciates the support of the Friends of the Library.

Montana author Keith McCafferty once again brings to readers a rousing mystery with sometime private detective Sean Stranahan. In Montana’s Madison Valley a heard of bison have fallen to their deaths off Palisades cliffs. Was it due to their panic caused by the July 4th fireworks or a ritualistic hunting practice? The only person who can offer answers is the Indian found dead with the bison, an arrow in his leg.
A new love story is “Falling” by Jane Green. Emma left the upper crust British life to find her own way in Manhattan. Although life there was filled with a good job, a gorgeous apartment, and a string of boyfriends; the high stress world of finance was taking its toll. A move to Westport, Connecticut, allows her to discover what she really wants in life. Renting a cottage she intends to renovate connects her with handyman Dominic, who lives next door with his young son. As they become more than friends fate intervenes in a shocking way.

A new western is “Charlie Red” by Michael Zimmer. Tom Slade is riding shotgun guarding a stagecoach delivering $45,000 to the mines in Arizona. When robbers attack, Slade sets off to pursue the robbers on a worn-out harness mule. Slade meets up with Claire Adams in the middle of the desert who has her own reason for tracking the outlaw gang under the influence of her mysterious friend, Charlie Red.
“Arrowood” is written by Laura McHugh. Twenty years ago Arden Arrowood’s younger twin sisters vanished on her watch, never to be seen again. Arden’s family never recovers, but she holds on to the hope her sisters are still alive. When her father dies, Arden inherits the once grand historical house along the Mississippi in southern Iowa. Returning home to uncover what really happened to her sisters, she discovers the truth is more devastating than she could have imagined.
