'Beeters continue to roll through the season, sweep Big Sandy, top Fort Benton in five sets

The Chinook Sugarbeeters volleyball team wrapped up another District 6C-East regular-season championship with their second straight set sweep of the Big Sandy Pioneers last Tuesday night to move to 7-0 in conference play.

Saturday the girls headed to Fort Benton to wrap up their season series with the Longhorns in a non-conference match while looking to defeat the Longhorns yet again this season.

The Sugarbeeters did just that, topping the Longhorns in a grueling five-set match that left the 'Beeters undefeated on the season with a perfect 12-0 mark.

In Tuesdays match with the Pioneers, Chinook easily defeated the visitors in straight sets for the second time this season. After a opening 25-16 first set win, Chinook coasted to a 25-9 second set victory before closing out the match 25-13 for their seventh conference win of the year.

Senior Kelsey Mathon led the team with five kills, junior Sierra Swank made her impact felt behind the serving line with eight of the team's 16 Aces on the night.

Junior Carrie Hofer and senior Taylor Neibauer each collected 8 digs apiece in the win. Neibauer also added three blocks on the night while Mathon served up the hitters with six assists.

Friday in Fort Benton the Sugarbeeters took a hard-fought first set win over the Longhorns 25-23. The Longhorns evened the match with a convincing 25-16 second set win.

The Sugarbeeters are an experienced bunch and responded strong with a 25-21 third-set win to put the pressure back on the Longhorns.

In another tight set that saw neither team pull away, it was the Longhorns that evened the match with a 25-20 fourth set win to force a winner-take-all fifth set.

The Sugarbeeters seized complete control in the final with 15-6 set win to win the match 3-2 and remain undefeated on the season.

As the season winds down into its final few weeks the Sugarbeeters will be on the road Thursday to face the Chester Joplin Inverness Hawks.

Saturday Chinook will be back home to take on the Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds. The regular season will conclude Tuesday night with a home contest against the Box Elder Bears. The 'Beeters will hold a presentation prior to the match in which they will honor their seniors final regular-season appearance in front of their hometown fans.

The 'Beeters will hold the District 6C-East top seed entering the tournament which be held in Chinook, October 27-28. with the top two teams advancing to the Northern C Divisional in Conrad, November 3-5. The top two will head to State tournament in Bozeman November 10-12.
