New books for your reading pleasure include “ Madeleine’s War” by Peter Watson. Colonel Matthew Hammond sustains a serious injury on the front lines in Europe that cost him a lung. Now he is back in England training new resistance fighters. One of the recruits is Madeleine Dirac, a French-Canadian nurse, and although against protocol, they fall in love. Now Matthew is torn about putting Madeleine’s life in danger even as he knows his unit will be needed to parachute behind Nazi lines.

James Lee Burke’s latest novel is “The Jealous Kind.” Life in Houston in the 1950s is drive-in restaurants, souped-up cars, jukeboxes and teenagers. But a class war has begun and Aaron Holland is drawn into a world of violence as he falls for Valerie Epstein.

“Commonwealth” is by Ann Patchett. This story covers five decades as it tells the story of four parents and six children that began with a chance encounter at a christening party. Years later Franny has an affair with a legendary author and the story of her siblings is no longer hers to control. They must come to terms with losses, guilt, and loyal connections that have developed over the years.

Meg Little Reilly has written “We Are Unprepared.” Fear of an impending disaster splits the town that Ash and Pia have moved to in Vermont. Paranoid preppers, religious fanatics, and government tools are each at odds about what course to take as a superstorm threatens to destroy them.

Mazzeo, the true story of Irena Sendler who saved 2,500 children from death and deportation in Nazi-occupied Poland. “The Thyroid Connection: Why You Feel Tired, Brain-Fogged, and Overweight - And How to Get Your Life Back” is by Amy Myers, MD.
