Early voter turnout exceeds 1700, results available on-line

November 9, 2016

After a long and arduous campaign process, the 2016 Election is finally over. Soon all the votes will be tabulated and winners declared.

Complete Federal, State and County Elections results can be found at http://www.sos.mt.gov. There you will find a complete county by county breakdown of all the races and outcomes.

Our actual Election ‘Day’ was, Tuesday, November 8 but the process really began several weeks ago in the form of Absentee Voting, a process that allowed voters to cast their ballots early and was permitted until November 7 at 12:00 p.m.

Beginning on October 12 an Alternate Election Office located at the Fort Belknap Agency was open every Wednesday and Thursday to provided eligible voters the opportunity to cast an Absentee Ballot.

In addition, the opportunity to vote early was held in Hays at the high school on October 14 and again in Lodge Pole on October 28.

Early voting at these locations saw over 400 voters cast their ballots in the 2016 election.

Throughout the county early voting was very high with a request for Absentee Ballots totaling more than 1700 including those turned in at the Alternate Election Offices.

“Based on the amount of Absentee Ballots requested, I do expect a high voter turnout,” said Blaine County Election Supervisor Sandra Boardman. The Absentee Ballots requested alone account for more than forty percent of eligible voters in Blaine County.

The idea of casting ballots early isn’t new but as a way of simplifying the process and allowing voters to take their time and feel more comfortable in casting their vote, it certainly has become more popular.

In the 2006 Election a total of 558 Absentee Ballots were cast in Blaine County, less than a third of this years total. We will have complete Election Results in next weeks Blaine County Journal.
