Hopa Mountain Announces a 2016 Citizen Leadership Award to Havre-based Plant a Seed…Read!

December 14, 2016

Given annually to recognize the exemplary community service of groups and individuals, Hopa Mountain’s Citizen Leadership Awards are drawn from nominations from individuals through an online process. This year, one award recognizes the work of Havre’s early literacy program, Plant-A-Seed . . .Read!, led by executive director, Lorraine Verploegen. This initiative is enriching the lives of preschool children in literacy and language by promoting the importance of early family literacy; providing awareness of family involvement, and preparing children for school success.

As Board member Bridget Kallenberger has said, “Through their initiatives, Plant-a-Seed..Read! volunteers are promoting strategies that enhance literacy and language development prior to school setting. They also realize the valuable importance of community partnerships, thus enhancing their resources for community members. This local coalition is making amazing strides in our community by planting the seed in families with early literacy skills so that preschool children will be better prepared for school success.”
