Chinook Red Cross Blood Drive is Tuesday, January 10th from 1 - 6 P.M. at Wallner Hall

January 4, 2017

Right now, the American Red Cross continues to have a critical need for blood donations. Every donation matters, as blood is being distributed to hospitals faster than donations are coming in. The Red Cross is encouraging donors to donate as well as encourage those around them to join in donating at this upcoming blood drive.

12:30-1:00 has been set aside for walk-ins and there have been slots set aside for walk-ins throughout the day as well.

For appointments, if you don’t have an appointment but would like to make one on the day of the drive, please stop by Wallner Hall to see what times are available.

And, don’t forget, to help cut off about 15 minutes from the entire blood donation process at the donation site, you can use Rapid Pass. You must, however, answer the questions the day of your donation. For more information regarding Rapid Pass please go to http://www.redcrossblood.org/rapidpass.

Please remember to bring your ID: Your Red Cross donor card, you drivers license, your school ID or, two other forms of identification.

Feel free to bring a friend so that you both may enjoy the benefits of giving blood as well as all the homemade goodies at the canteen after you give blood.

It is important to remember that before donating blood you should get a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast or lunch, drink extra water and fluids to replace the volume you will donate but avoiding tea, coffee, or other beverages with caffeine. Eat iron-rich foods such as red meat, fish, poultry, beans, iron-fortified cereals, raisins or prunes. Avoid fatty foods such as hamburgers, fries or ice cream before donating.

If you are unable to donate blood or uncertain about wanting to donate blood, there is always a need for volunteers to donate time rather than blood. Our current need is for individuals to assist at the registration table, even if all you can donate is an hour. If interested, please call Carla Jenewein Blood Drive Coordinator at 357-2491.
