Turner blows by Big Sandy 56-26, improve to 7-2 on the season

The Turner Tornadoes 56-26 win over the Big Sandy Pioneers this week gave them a 7-2 record as the season reached the midway point on the schedule.

The Tornadoes suffered their second conference loss a day earlier, falling 66-24 to the top seeded Box Elder Bears. As it stands the Tornadoes sit in 4-2 in the District 9C.

Chinook fell to 4-6 overall and 2-4 in District play following a pair of setbacks to the North Star Knights 45-42 Friday and the Fort Benton Longhorns 44-40 0n Saturday.

Hays/Lodge Pole fell 59-36 to the Roy/Winifred Outlaws in a non-conference clash and to Box Elder Saturday.

The Tornadoes bounced back Friday against the Pioneers by storming out to a early 14-4 lead, then doubled up Big Sandy in the second quarter 18-9 to lead 32-13 at the break.

Turner kept their foot on the gas throughout the contest, expanding their lead in the third and the fourth quarters in securing a comfortable 56-26 win.

Senior Ella Billmayer led the effort chipping in 11 points in the contest. Senior Rennay Watkins added nine markers as did freshman Sarah Billmayer.

The Sugarbeeters weekend included a pair of tough losses to District 9C foes beginning with the North Star Knights on Friday.

Chinook held a 10-9 advantage after eight minutes but trailed 25-19 by intermission.

Both defenses controlled the action in the third quarter but the Sugarbeeters were able to trim the deficit to 31-27 entering the fourth.

Junior Sierra Swanks basket brought Chinook within one at 41- before falling 45-42.

Swanks 12 points led the 'Beeter effort followed by senior Brooke Elliot's 10.

Saturday the Sugarbeeters and Longhorns battled in a back and forth contest with both teams having the opportunity to take control.

Chinook again led early 8-4 and maintained the advantage by halftime as they held a 20-15 lead at the break.

The teams would each find a bit of a rhythm in the third with Chinook maintaining the five point advantage 32-27.

Fort Benton seized the momentum in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Sugarbeeters 17-8 in the stanza for the 44-40 win.

Chinook received 11 points from junior Carrie Hofer, ten more from Swank and six from sophomore Kourtney Hanson in the contest.
