Artlight: Kathleen J. Ryan: Through creative expression and the joy of the Lord, Kathleen shares her journey of living with PTSD and the power of belief, faith, and grace

Artist and speaker Kathleen J. Ryan was born and raised in Montana and spent most of her childhood on a ranch in the Highwood area. After graduating from Highwood High School in 1972 she went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked in the medical field for several years. From 2001-2005 she attended the University of Great Falls and graduated with degrees in sociology and psychology. Eventually she went to work for the state as a vocational rehabilitation counselor in Havre.

A series of events culminated in Kathleen being diagnosed with PTSD in 2010. Her work with various forms of art was initially started as an outlet for dealing with PTSD. It has evolved into a celebration of learning to live life victoriously in faith. Her primary creative love is sandstone carving. Her work includes rock sculptures, driftwood/sandstone carvings, rock jewelry, pebble art and wire weaving. She also enjoys repurposing old furniture and loves working with chalk paint.

Kathleen will share her journey of growing in faith, trust and the love of her Heavenly Father on Saturday March 18th at Chinook Alliance Church. She will also address stigmas attached to those who live with mental/emotional health difficulties. She will bring some of her art pieces and give a demonstration on "Chalk Painting on a Budget".

Kathleen is "in the daily process of learning how to redefine a woman with a disability into being a woman with different abilities through the grace of the Lord." Her story is shared with humor and a touch of tears.

Ladies, if you would like to attend this event please contact Betty Billmayer at 357-4100. The time is10AM to 2PM. Cost is $4. Lunch will be provided. Please register by March 12th.
