Appointments are highly encouraged by the American Red Cross. So, if you have not made an appointment you can go on-line at redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-733-2767 (1-800-REDCROSS). The Red Cross will begin accepting walk in donors at 12:30PM until 1PM. Walk in slots will also be available each hour throughout the day.

Any healthy person age 18 (or age 16 or 17 with a signed parental consent) or older and weighing at least 110 pounds is eligible and encouraged to donate blood Valid identification is required for all blood donations (driver’s license or school ID are acceptable). Parental consents for those 16 or 17 years of age can be picked up at the high school office or at the registration table at Wallner Hall the day of the drive.

For those with an appointment, you can save up to 15 minutes at your donation by completing the health history online the day of the drive. All you have to do is visit redcrossblood.org/rapidpass.

For all the Chinook High School Seniors out there, if you have been donating blood and/or volunteering over the past four years, don’t forget to go to http://www.redcrossblood.org and log your donations, volunteer time and if you have brought in any new donors. In order to have your red cords to you in time for graduation, this needs to be done soon. There is one more blood drive in May if you are in need of another donation before graduation. If you have questions or difficulty with the site, please call Carla Jenewein at 357-2491 after 3PM.

Before donating it is recommended that you: Get a good night’s sleep; Have a good breakfast or lunch; drink extra water and fluids to replace the volume you will donate (try to avoid beverages with caffeine); Eat iron-rich foods; Avoid fatty foods.
