Harlem's 2017 March Madness Calcutta enjoys better than average total purse

Aaron Niederegger spends some time doing "bracketology" at the 2017 March Madness Calcutta in Harlem last week. He said, "The Calcutta is always a lot of fun and helps a good cause. I enjoy participating."

Bidders at the recent 2017 March Madness Calcutta spent a total of $23,707 to purchase 64 teams that will be bidding for the national college basketball championship. The tournament will conclude on Tuesday, April 6, when the championship game is played. In its seventh year, the Harlem-based Calcutta is sponsored by the local Civic Association. The annual event is the major fundraiser for the community group that uses its share of the proceeds for a number of projects in and around Harlem.
