A local mid-morning group of regular coffee drinkers visit with NBC Correspondent Harry Smith. Smith was in Blaine County interviewing several groups and individuals about life in a county that is closely divided based on votes cast in the last presidential election. Smith caught up with this group at the Chinook Motor Inn last week. The program is set to air on April 30 on NBC.

NBC Producer Samantha Wender spent part of a week in early March visiting with Blaine County residents across the county. Last week a crew revisited Blaine County to do filming for a story about how citizens in a county equally split in the last presidential election "can coexist." In addition to Wender and a film crew, Correspondent Harry Smith interviewed citizens who had visited with Wender earlier in the month. The NBC team filmed in Blaine County for two days.

Harry Smith, who first started his career in radio, switched to television in 1981. For nearly four decades he's worked for two major national networks as a news anchor, special assignment correspondent and hosted a variety of news and feature shows. He joined NBC in 2011 after a twenty- five year career with CBS.

Along with his many professional awards and reports from around the world, he has the distinction of holding one-on-one interviews with former presidents Clint, Bush, Ford, Carter, Nixon and former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Smith brought his interviewing skills and easy going personality to the task in Blaine County. His open style won him many compliments from the people he interviewed. He even took time to do some sightseeing around the county.

According to Heather DePriest, who was first contacted by the NBC producer and organized many aspects of the visit, Wender seems to think she has all the material she needs to produce the feature. The piece is expected to be broadcast on April 30, but no times are set at this point. DePriest said she was assured that the time of broadcast would be shared so that locals could catch the feature.
