Camp leader Melanie Qualls and her group of Vacation Bible School students enjoy storytime in the park. The Bible School was very well attended with 44 students attending at its peak as well as 18 junior/senior high school councilors and adult leaders.

Sweet Memorial Park in Chinook was a busy place last week as the local jump youth group helped put on a vacation bible school last Monday through Thursday.

The Girl Scout house served as headquarters for the event which ran from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. daily.

The school was an extremely popular event this past week, at its height 44 children attended the midday sessions headed up by 18 Junior High and High School and adult camp counselors.

The Bible school first began in 2008 when a visiting youth group joined with the local youth group to put on the school. Since then the local JUMP group has maintained the tradition.

The campers are divided into four groups based on age: Preschool and Kindergarten; First and second grade; Third and fourth grade and fifth and sixth grade.

The theme of this years Vocation Bible School was "Sonrise National Park". Camp Director Chrissy Downs was thrilled with the turnout and happy to have such a large number of campers.

Downs along with Melanie Qualls and Carla Anderson have been involved with VBS since it first began. In addition several of this years camp counselors have also been involved in some way or another starting out as camp goers themselves.

This group of volunteers include Janelle Downs, Brandon Murnion, Elizabeth Finley, Olivia Finley, Blake Downs and Courtney Gunderson were all on hand to help the youngsters out.

The Chinook High School contingent included Jacob Huckabee, Paxtin McCann, Rachel Gunderson and Cameron Huestis.

Junior High Councelors were Ginger Hauer, Lexi Pitkanen, Anna Terry Torin Cecrle and Daniel MacLeod.

The four groups of children always had several counselors to help ensure they had a good time.

Each group took part in four different activities rotating from one to the other each day. Those activities included Story time; Arts & Crafts; Games and Music.

Lunch was provided daily by Loaves and Fishes and the kids were given a snack as well.
