Valerie White takes over as Blaine County Superintendent of Schools

Valerie White has been selected to replace Kelly Mills as the Blaine County Superintendent of Schools.

White was sworn in Thursday, September 7 by District Court Judge Yvonne Laird. She has actually been on the job since September 1.

White taught at the Harlem Elementary School for 25 years in a number of different capacities. She retired from the Harlem School District in 2012.

White has since worked for the Office of Public Instruction in Helena for Denise Juneau and subsequently Elsie Arntzen as an Educational Consultant.

"I'm anxious to serve the people of Blaine County in order for our students to have the best education possible," said White.

She plans on being very accessible to the people of Blaine County, "I'm always interested in talking with the people of the community, I hope they feel free to stop in or call or email me if they have any questions or concerns at all," added White.

The office of the Blaine County Superintendent is an elected position and White currently is serving the remainder of the previous Superintendents term which runs through December of 2018.

The job of the Blaine County Superintendent is a unique one that has to deal with a large variety of different situations.

As per the offices website "Blaine County supports 8 independent school districts, of those three consist of high school districts- Chinook, Harlem and Turner, one K-12 district- Hays/Lodge Pole, four elementary districts- Bear Paw, Cleveland, North Harlem Colony and Zurich, three private schools- St. Paul's Mission, Turner Colony and the White Clay Immersion School. There are also a large number of families home schooling their children within the county."

White will oversee the general operations of the districts including, "financial concerns, transportation, tuition, setting county mills for school transportation and retirement, as well as, centralized clerical and administrative functions prescribed by law."

She will also assist schoolboards who don't have a serving Superintendent with day to day opporations required to run their districts.
